More Tequila Cocktail Recipes

As in Mexico

Tequila, which did not became famous until the 1980's by movies like Under the Volcano or 92°F in the shade, owes much of it's success to the special ways in which the Mexican consume this drink.

In cafe's it is served with salt. One puts a bit of salt on the back of one's hand, licks it off and and 'down's' a shot of tequila. Other variants: biting a piece of lime or a spanish pepper!
The contrast with the alcohol is sensational. With a 'rapido' one add some tonic to a glass of tequila and slams it on the bar, thus making it's content fizz. After that one finishes the glasses in a single swig. Etc., etc.... a visual and noisy spectacle with allure.

It's also possible to enjoy Tequila quietly, especially the kinds that have ripened longer and are amber colored. The tequila 'reposado' with remain in a cask for a few weeks, but the 'anêjo' ripens for at least six months.

Rondo

This short drink has a bigger impact that the taste indicates.

Put in a mixing glass with some ice cubes:

4/10 Tequila
2/10 red Vermouth
2/10 Campari
2/10 wild strawberries liqueur

Stir carefully and serve in cocktail glasses. Decorate with wild strawberries or with a preserved cherry.

Durango

In this very refreshing long drink, the sour of the grapefruit juice goes well with the strength of the tequila and the almond taste.

Put in a shaker half full of ice:

3/10 Tequila
6/10 Grapefruit juice
1/10 Amaretto

Shake well and serve in large tumbler glasses. Top off with soda water. Decorate with half a slice of grapefruit.

 

Acapulco

Long drink: at any time

Fill a shaker half full with ice cubes and add:

3/10 Tequila
4/10 Passion fruit nectar
2/10 Apricot liqueur
1/10 Blue Curaçao

Shake well and serve in large tumbler glasses. Decorate with a slice of lemon.

Abakila

This short drink is quite soft and tastes well before an exotic meal.

Fill a shaker half full with ice cubes and add:

3/10 Tequila
2/10 banana liqueur
1/10 Kibowi
4/10 Pineapple juice

Shake well and serve in cocktail glasses. Decorate with slices kiwi, banana or pineapple.

Margarita

Depending on your taste or mood you can make this vary in strength, by adding more lemon juice.

Put in a shaker that is 50% filled with ice and add:

6/10 Tequila
3/10 Cointreau
1/10 Lemon Juice

Shake and serve in cocktail glasses that have been rimmed with salt. Decorate with a half slice of lime.

Sombrero

This both soft and dry short drink is suitable as aperitif and digestif.

Put in a mixing glass with some ice:

4/10 Tequila
4/10 Drambuie
2/10 Dry Vermouth

Stir carefully in chilled cocktail glasses and decorate with half slice of lemon.

 

Evergreen

Short drink: Aperitif.

Put in mixing glass with some ice cubes:

2/10 Tequila
1/10 Peppermint liqueur
1/10 Galliano
6/10 Pineapple juice

Stir carefully in chilled cocktail glasses and decorate with mint leaves.

Zapata

short drink: Digestif

Put in mixing glass with some ice cubes:

7/10 Tequila
2/10 Coffee Liqueur
1/10 Cointreau

Stir carefully in chilled cocktail glasses and decorate with a preserved cherry and a coffee bean.
